Back in the Swing of Things

Well, I’ve been pretty MIA. Since my last post I’ve been on a solo road trip up to Maine (those recap posts are coming!), adopted a cat, survived the holidays, helped throw a bachelorette weekend for one of my dearest friends and have been stress baking my own bread.

Keeping up with a blog can be difficult, particularly when life gets in the way, so I’m going to post as I can. I’ve got an exciting trip planned to Utah in a couple week’s for the aforementioned dear friend’s wedding, so you can also expect a few posts about that as well.

For now, I’ll introduce you to my cat, Mallomar. I adopted him at the end of October, and I love this little mooshy guy so much. He never fails to crack me up.

I adopted him through Jersey Cats, a foster-based rescue organization in Jersey City. The poor guy was found in a parking lot, and weighed only 4 lbs when they took him in. They estimate his age to be around 10 yrs, so 4 lbs was quite shocking.

When I first brought him home, he was very raggedy-looking (he had been shaved in spots to fix how matted his fur had become) and I could feel every bone in his back. The good thing? This cat can EAT. And not just his food, he’s extremely interested in my food as well.

The woman who fostered him (find her at @rukasthecat on Instagram) discovered his hilarious penchant for human food, and started his Instagram account. I’ve found that I don’t eat very humorous food to take pictures of him trying to lick, but I’m doing my best to keep the account going! Follow along at @mallomarlicks.

He’s beginning to look healthier and healthier as the weeks go by. His fur is filling out nicely — the shedding, oh, the shedding! — and when I weighed him around a month ago he was nearly 8lbs. He now has what I like to call a “cat belly.” You know what I mean — that squishy, smooshy belly cats have. Every morning when I head to the kitchen to make my tea he’s sure I know about it too, turning onto his back and asking for belly rubs.

So that’s Mallomar! I’m sure he’ll be making future appearances on the blog in some form or another 🙂
